Vaccination Debate: Is This Chinese?

Talking to my doctor about vaccinations was so confusing !

Healthcare providers need to do a better job of communicating information to patients like me – new mothers, travelers and educated with a need to know all of the risks and implications for my son.

I feel like the lack of information puts a child at risk as much as anything else. There are so many rumors, theories and myths about vaccinations and I understand why. The pamphlet they handed me in the office was seriously crazy – it might as well have been written in Chinese. It was actually just a piece of paper with scribble on it. Do you think anyone who’s not a medical professional can understand these symbols and medical terms?

I was shocked…I can’t believe this information is how we’re supposed to decipher one of the most important decisions you make for your child’s health. I really expected something more informative, that laid out all of the information in an easy-to-read format for patients. Now what am I suppose to do? Take this to the internet and start googling? I know that’s not safe either.. So now what? I call my girlfriends who are mom’s??

When I made an appointment with my doctor to talk about them he pretty much told me that I need to follow the schedule of vaccines or else my child’s life is in danger and that’s about it.. I think it might be time to change doctors.

I’d love to hear how other mothers made their decision and what resources were helpful to them.

Ransom is going in for his 2 month shots on Thursday. Any help is greatly appreciated..
